Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Casesr

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a disorder involving the development of a clot in a deep vein in the body.  Without proper protection by way of preventive measures or diagnosis and treatment these clots have the potential to travel to the lungs causing a pulmonary embolism which can be fatal. There are certain well known risk factors that doctors must be aware of.  The risk factors include, any type of General Surgery, Orthopedic surgery such as total hip replacements and total knee replacement , trauma (including fractures), and prolonged immobility such as bed rest, all increase a patient's chances of developing a DVT.  Prophylactic measures for prevention of DVT should be ordered by doctors  in these type cases.  Here is some useful information regarding DVT and DVT prophylaxis from Wheeless' Textbook of Orthopaedics.
