ARBITRATION AWARD - $250,000.00 – Riverside Kaiser – The 73 year old husband and father of five adult children died of a pulmonary embolism following elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy(gallbladder surgery). Due to his age and the nature of the surgery he was at high risk for deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and either mechanical and/or pharmaceutical prophylaxis (preventive measures) were required but not provided. Since the decedent was retired and not providing financial support to the family, the $250,000.00 award is the maximum allowed by law for non-economic damages.
